Faced with unprecedented levels of teacher lay-offs, the Pittsburgh Public Schools is seeking to work with the leadership of the Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers (PFT) to develop an improved teacher furlough process that considers factors beyond seniority.
 

The Pittsburgh Foundation supports fully this effort to safeguard and strengthen Pittsburgh’s nationally acclaimed progress at developing teacher effectiveness and educational reform, to the benefit of all of our children. Here’s the only message we would add to all of the adults involved in this discussion: please remember, above all, it’s about what is best for our kids.
