Ligonier Valley Endowment Governors' Fund

Established: 12/31/2001

The Ligonier Valley Endowment (LVE) was established nearly 30 years ago to assist a variety of agencies dedicated to improving the quality of life for those living within the boundary of the Ligioner School District.

The most recently added endowment fund since its LVE's inception, the 13th sub-fund, was created by Ligonier resident Steve Gooder and his wife Janet. The Gooders have been married for 51 years, have three children and 10 grandchildren and see the fund as an opportunity to give something back to their community while creating a lasting legacy that their children and grandchildren can continue to build.

Grants are typically made for a tangible item, such a piece of equipment for an organization, repairs, or a special project. LVE is also a contributor to Ligonier Days, an annual event that brings economic activity into the area.

"LVE does a tremendous job of funding every nonprofit in the Ligonier Valley," says Mr. Gooder. "Many people view Ligonier as upper crust, but in reality the school district encompasses four townships and our population runs the gamut of very wealth to very poor."

Mr. Gooder hopes to continue to build his own "lucky number 13" fund through the support of family in years to come.
