Date: Wednesday, Aug. 23 from 4 – 6 p.m.
Location: Knead Community Café

By invitation

When a community is at its best, its residents care for their neighbors while creatively planning for future growth. This is the story of New Kensington. After decades of decline, this former industrial town is reinventing itself while developing innovative ways to make sure all residents benefit from this reinvention.

The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County and Pittsburgh Foundation donors are invited to join us to learn how New Kensington is evolving and what’s on the horizon.

  • Dine at the Knead Community Café, the first “pay what you can” restaurant in the region, and hear how owners Kevin and Mary Bode are addressing food insecurity.
  • Stay at the café to meet with local nonprofit leaders, or take a short walking tour of New Kensington’s main street led by Mayor Tom Guzzo and his team.
  • Stop at the downtown community garden, now in its third year of operation, and learn how Westmoreland County Community College is growing food to feed the community.
  • Meet Penn State New Kensington Chancellor Kevin Snyder under the New Kensington mural and hear how the Corridor of Innovation and Entrepreneurial Center is providing bold leadership to spark growth in downtown New Kensington.
