Patrick Dowd, Ph.D.
Patrick Dowd, Ph.D., is the inaugural Executive Director of Allies for Children, a child advocacy nonprofit dedicated to being a bold voice for policy changes that improve the lives of children. Prior to that, he served as a local elected official for almost a decade. On the Pittsburgh Board of Education, he helped build a strong coalition that ushered in an era of robust education reform that focused on academic excellence and accountability. Dowd later was elected to Pittsburgh City Council, where he chaired the Intergovernmental Affairs Committee, which is responsible for legislation worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Again, he helped build coalitions to advance policies. Before serving as a full-time elected official, he taught high school history and economics. He is a life trustee of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh.
