The Pittsburgh Foundation

Marianne Cola Special Assistant to the President

Since November 2007, Marianne has worked closely with the president and CEO, managing his calendar, interacting with the Board, managing the office and facilitating strong collaborations with community leaders in the nonprofit, business and government sectors. She previously worked for the Hunt Foundation, a major family philanthropy in the region, where she assisted with grants management. She brings an in-depth understanding of how the city functions. Her first job out of school was attending, recording and transcribing city council meetings verbatim. Marianne then worked for an investment consulting group preparing reports for clients and later worked for the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy designing, installing and maintaining community flower gardens across the city. There Marianne organized teams of volunteers and honed her project management skills. She later served as secretary to the director of city planning, where she maintained calendars and kept the engine of the planning, art and historic review commission meetings moving.

Marianne loves the outdoors and is an experienced angler who has caught sailfish, marlin and tarpon, to name a few. She has completed the Pittsburgh half-marathon twice and in 2013 ran the timed 7 Mile Bridge run in the Florida Keys and is proud to say that she “beat the bus.” She also has flown in the WWII B17 bomber "Memphis Belle", and has ridden in the cab of a working steam locomotive. Marianne grew up in Mount Washington and has lived in Allegheny West in Pittsburgh’s Northside neighborhood since 1999 with her husband, Tom.
