Don Brockett Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established: 12/5/1995

Don Brockett was a celebrated actor in Pittsburgh, perhaps best known for his portrayal of Chef Brockett on Mister Rogers' Neighborhood. His repertoire included roles in several major films as well: Flashdance, The Silence of the Lambs, Bob Roberts and George Romero's 1985 classic Day of the Dead. Many also might recall his role on the well-known comedic revue, Forbidden Pittsburgh.

In 1995, his wife, Leslie Brockett, established the Don Brockett Memorial Scholarship Fund in his memory as a way to provide scholarships for students who are struggling financially.

While Don was actively involved in charitable giving during his lifetime, he was especially interested in helping aspiring young actors to get their start in the entertainment business.

"It's fascinating to see the success of these kids – for example Rob Marshall and his sister Kathleen – both started with Don," Leslie says. "And there are a lot of other performers without those identifiable names who have gone on to Broadway and the movies from their training with Don. That's why I think the scholarship fund is a good thing to remember Don."

The scholarship benefits students of the performing and theatrical arts at Point Park University, Carnegie Mellon University, Chatham University and University of Pittsburgh.
