ONCE SCHOLARSHIP RECOMMENDATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE, the committee chairperson forwards award recommendations to the Foundation, which notifies all applicants of the award decision and requests proof of enrollment from the recipients. Upon receipt of information from the student, payments are made to the educational institution in the student’s name. Payments are typically disbursed in August and September for the coming academic year. Disbursements go directly to the institution to ensure that the award is used for tax-free, qualified educational expenses including tuition and fees, and course-related expenses, as well as required books, supplies and equipment. Room and board, travel, research, clerical help or equipment and other expenses that are not required for enrollment in or attendance at an eligible educational institution do not qualify. If a student leaves an educational program, the unused portion of the scholarship is returned to the fund for future use. Career days, like this one facilitated by The Pittsburgh Promise, help students envision brighter futures. 14 SCHOLARSHIP HANDBOOK
