Fall donor event: Heading off hate through kindness

Tuesday, October 25, 2022 3:00 pm

Segments of our society continue to threaten the lives and liberty of many through racism, intolerance, bigotry and xenophobia. Instances of hate have grown in frequency and the voices of hate have raised the volume through verbal, physical and virtual attacks. In 2020, the Department of Justice reported 5,227 hate crimes in America, a 32% increase from 2019, with 62% of victims targeted because of the offenders’ bias against race, ethnicity or ancestry, “the largest bias motivation category.”

In August 2017, the JCC founded the Center for Loving Kindness and Civic Engagement to “strategically counter the demoralizing rhetoric of public discourse to strengthen the fabric of the community by amplifying the long-held values of ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’ and ‘Do not stand idle while your neighbor bleeds’ as we redefine ‘neighbor’ from a geographic term to a moral concept.”

For our fall donor appreciation event, we invite Foundation fund holders to learn how the Center has become a vital hub where residents of all backgrounds and religious beliefs strengthen the bonds that make our community special.

This event is by invitation for current fund holders at the Foundation.
