In the 2024 election cycle, organizations across the Pittsburgh region continue to deploy strategies to increase voter participation among groups that historically have been underrepresented at the polls. In southwestern Pennsylvania, this includes young, Latino and Black voters, as well as those with lower median household incomes.

Just two weeks after Hurricane Helene hit the Florida Big Bend region, Hurricane Milton made landfall in the area late Wed. Oct. 9, 2024, as a Category 3 hurricane. The devastation from the additional rainfall, winds and flooding compound the already complex recovery efforts for Florida communities.
