The Pittsburgh Foundation

Kaufmann's V.I.P. Evening Fund

Established: 7/2/1991

The Kaufmann's VIP evening fund was founded in 1991 as a springtime and holiday shopping party that attracted thousands of people to Kaufmann's Downtown.

The first event was held in the spring of that year, raising an estimated $16,000, and went on to raise more money in subsequent years, becoming an annual tradition. Those who attended were entertained by activities on every floor of the downtown department store, including fashion shows, celebrity look-alikes and home demonstrations.

The funds helped to support charities that assisted abused women and children and offered programs to prevent abuse. Among the organizations that benefitted from the fund were: Crisis Center North, Inc., Center for Family Excellence, Inc., Goodwill Industries of Pittsburgh, Women's Center & Shelter of Greensburg, A Second Chance, Inc. and Domestic Abuse Counseling Center.

The VIP Evening of Fashion and Beauty was sponsored by Kaufmann's and women's professional organizations.
