Sarah Kristin Owen Fund

Established: 12/22/2004

As a young woman, Sarah Kristin Owen lived life to the fullest. Unfortunately, that life took a tragic turn when she began battling a serious illness, a drug addiction that could not be cured.

Sarah died on Nov. 24, 2003 at the age of 23, leaving behind a young daughter. Her parents, Ron and Judi Owen of O-Hara Township, established this fund as a way to channel their grief into something positive, creating a charity to benefit children and young women who are struggling to improve their physical, educational and social well-being through a drug-free life.

More than 16 million Americans share Sarah's struggle with substance dependence and abuse. Nearly 19,000 people die from drugs each year. R.O.S.E.S. from Sarah (Recovery Or Single-Mother Educational Support) holds events twice a year to raise funds that support girls and young women to take control and avoid the same fate as Sarah.

The fund continues to support organizations that align with its mission and has made donations of more than $250,000 to these selected groups through the years. Many provide comprehensive care and counseling for chemically dependent adults, youth and their families.
