Edward Simpson was inspired by his second cousin, John M. Russell, to create a fund to support the church they both attended and admired: Raccoon Presbyterian Church in Bulger, Pa.
Both Simpson and Russell were born into the traditions of the Raccoon Presbyterian Church and are helping the church continue its practices for many years through their funds.
Simpson created this fund at The Pittsburgh Foundation in 1961 just a couple of years before his cousin’s death. Although Russell moved to Pittsburgh, he remained close to the Raccoon Presbyterian Church in Candor, Pa.. Russell had created a Pittsburgh Foundation fund in 1948 to provide for the church, so that “the preaching of the Gospel” at the church could continue.
