DeSean Fountain Memorial Fund

Established: 9/14/2015

On Sept. 4, 2015 DeSean Fountain, 14, of East Liberty was shot on his way home from school and later died from his gunshot wounds.

Fountain was an athlete, a great student and a participant in Amachi Pittsburgh, which aims to empower young minds to overcome the challenges of parental incarceration and to reach their full potential.

Fountain’s Amachi mentor of eight years, Gwyneth Gaul, established the DeSean Fountain Memorial Fund in his name to ensure that he is not forgotten and that organizations can do more to help children get the support they need. The fund supports mentoring programs like Amachi, after-school sports programs and other programs and organizations that help keep children safe and fulfill their hopes and dreams.

Gaul and others involved in Amachi Pittsburgh recognized that Fountain was working hard towards a bright future and hope that this fund in his honor will help encourage other children to do the same.
