The Thoughtful Fund was founded to further compassionate giving (tzedakah) led by Quaker commitments to simplicity, equality, sustainability and peace.
Allocations evolve through Quaker listening and discernment. Current priorities include global health, curing blindness, food security and refugee resettlement. The Fund’s advisor welcomes consultation about thoughtful ways to make a difference.
The Thoughtful Fund was established in 2020 in memory of Marc W. Steinberg (1956-2019). Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Marc was a devoted professor at Smith College in Massachusetts.
If you knew Marc, you can share a testimony on our website in his memory. You can also enjoy pages on his scholarship and teaching, as well as photos, playlists and testimonies from colleagues and friends. For a sense of Marc, see his compassionate "life advice" to a student.
