Ricardo iamuuri Robinson

Individual/Collective Exposure awardee: $20,000
This grant will support Ricardo iamuuri Robinson’s field recordings, sound installations, music releases, films and sculptures that push the boundaries of sound art.
Ricardo iamuuri Robinson is an interdisciplinary conceptual sound recordist, composer and visual artist. He dives into the realm of acoustic ecologies, exploring the intricate relationship between human beings and their environment, as mediated through sound. Guided by his personal mantra, "the listener is always the composer," he aims to unravel the expansive truth that humans, across time and space, encounter sound through biased filters.
In his opinion, sound is a powerful force that shapes our perception of the world. Sound, explains iamuuri, is site-specific, yet capable of traversing boundaries, connecting people on a planetary level. Whether experienced through the ear or felt as vibrations within the body, sound carries the essence of our experiences and geographies. It is through these filters that we navigate the multifaceted harmonics of our surroundings.
“Through my work, I seek to create immersive experiences that challenge preconceived notions and invite reflection,” says iamuuri. By capturing and manipulating sound, I aim to transport the listener to different environments, evoking a sense of presence and connection. I strive to highlight the diversity and richness of our sonic landscapes, shedding light on the ways in which sound is intertwined with power structures and social dynamics.”
Through his work, iamuuri says he hopes to foster a deeper appreciation for the beauty and significance of sound.
