Caroline Knox lived in New Castle, Pa., where she raised nine children. Two of her sons, Lewis and William Knox, established the Caroline Knox Memorial Fund in 1958 which benefits vulnerable elderly and the children and youth of Lawrence County. In their wills, the brothers specified that the fund’s distribution committee should always include Methodist, Presbyterian and Episcopal church leaders, as well as a member of the business community. With this diversity of experience and non-denominational perspectives, the fund has been able to assist organizations serving vulnerable elderly as well as children and youth throughout Lawrence County.

Criteria for applicants:

  • The Knox Fund supports religious, charitable and educational programs in Lawrence County, prioritizing children and older adults in need.
  • Must have a current public 501(c)(3) status. Entities without a 501(c)(3) status can contact Katie Belonus at belonusk@pghfdn.org for assistance locating a potential fiscal sponsor.
  • Only one request can be submitted per organization.
  • Full funding is not guaranteed, but please submit a request for LESS than $50,000.
