Donations amplified by $550,000 incentive pool from foundations and donors

PITTSBURGH, AUG. 6, 2025 – Regional nonprofits facing challenges to serving individuals and families due to funding cuts received a boost of operating support yesterday from the #ONEDAY Critical Needs Alert online giving event. Hosted by The Pittsburgh Foundation and Community Foundation of Westmoreland County, the 16-hour campaign raised $1.86 million for 182 nonprofit organizations in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties.

Participating organizations provide essential human services in five areas — child care, food and nutrition, eviction prevention and housing, employment, and physical and mental health care — directly to vulnerable people. All organizations participating in the giving event received a donation.

“Our region once again stepped up during a time of dramatic uncertainty for the most vulnerable in our communities,” Pittsburgh Foundation President and CEO Lisa Schroeder said in announcing the fundraising totals. “This year’s ONEDAY campaign may have been the most critical in its history, as nonprofits and service providers confront significant financial losses due to budget cuts. The funds raised will go to organizations that are helping our neighbors in need.”

The Pittsburgh Foundation, The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County and their donors provided a $550,000 incentive pool. Of these funds, $50,000 was earmarked for Westmoreland County organizations. Donations from $25 to $1,000 triggered funding from the pool, which is divided among nonprofits after the giving concludes.

Allegheny County organizations received a total of $1.75 million and Westmoreland County nonprofits raised $119,000, including incentive funds, from the campaign.

Since the inception of the Critical Needs Alerts in 2013, the foundations have raised over $17 million, including incentive funds. This total includes Critical Needs Alert campaigns as well as the #LoveIsStronger day of giving campaign following the attack on the Tree of Life*Or L’Simcha, Dor Hadash and New Light congregations in November 2018 that raised $794,000 benefitting eight organizations.

Critical Needs Alert giving events align with the foundations’ mission of improving quality of life in the region. The events help to realize the vision of a vibrant, equitable and just Pittsburgh that supports everyone—regardless of race, identity or circumstance—to thrive and fulfill their potential.
