The Barbara King Powell Memorial Nursing Scholarship was established to honor her memory by her sister, brother and brother-in-law. Barbara, a graduate of Penn Hills High School and the West Penn School of Nursing, was a caring, compassionate nurse who spent the majority of her career in service to our nation’s veterans at the Highland Drive Veterans Administration Hospital.
The scholarship supports graduates of an Allegheny County high school who plan to attend an accredited school of nursing in Allegheny County. Consideration will be given to students with lesser GPAs (but a 2.0 minimum) who have shown a strong work ethic and kindhearted attitude, as evidenced by their volunteer work and clear desire to be a nurse.
