Irene Drob was an active member of the Tuesday Musical Club, a group that was founded in 1889 as a place for women musicians whose “social status” prevented them from playing music professionally.
Originally known as the “Tuesday Afternoon Musicale,” the Tuesday Musical Club, or TMC, has been held at the Stephen Foster Memorial since its dedication on June 2, 1937.
Though Irene passed away on November 14, 1969, the fund continues to provide scholarships to students who are involved in the TMC. Many prominent Pittsburgh musicians have benefitted from the scholarships.
