The Nelle M. Oliver Fund was established with a large charitable bequest from the estate of Nelle M. Oliver. The fund came into management at The Pittsburgh Foundation in 1978. Oliver was a devout Methodist who gave generously to religious and educational institutions. In her will, she asked that the fund be used preferentially for the support of organizations “carrying on work among the colored people of Allegheny County, PA.” While it has given to a wide variety of organizations and causes since its establishment, the fund continues to center that wish in its grantmaking today.
