“Never had I met someone who was so considerate. He treated everyone like they were truly someone special. He never looked down upon anyone.”
—Eileen McClure
Anna Mae Kapfer established the Thomas P. Kapfer Memorial Fund in honor of her son, who passed away in 1986 at the age of 28.
Born in 1958, Thomas Kapfer went to Brentwood High School, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and winner of the 1976 Mark Ryder award for leadership. After graduation, he enrolled at Duquesne University, where he majored in finance and was known as a relentlessly hard worker.
“I guess you can say he was a perfectionist,” his fiancée, Eileen McClure, once wrote. “At times it appeared that he was born with a Midas touch because of this. Yet despite all his attributes, the greatest one might be that he was very humble. He blushed when praised and always remembered to include his friends or co-workers when cited.”
Today the Thomas P. Kapfer Memorial Fund honors that same compassion and humility by awarding an annual scholarship based on leadership, academic achievement, and “an extraordinary concern for others.”
