Jane Kilburg Alcorn Memorial Fund
If you have any questions or issues making a donation, please read these FAQs or email us at donation [at] pghfdn.org (donation[at]pghfdn[dot]org).
The Jane Kilburg Alcorn Memorial Fund was established by her husband, Charles, and their three children to honor Jane’s commitment and passion for assisting children born with cleft lips and palates and other similar conditions. Income from this fund will provide an annual donation to the Cleft, Cranio-Facial Center at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. Jane, known to her patients and their families as “Nurse Jane,” was the registered nurse for the Cleft, Cranio-Facial Center when she passed away on Jan. 22, 2021 at the age of 63 after a difficult battle with brain cancer (CNS Lymphoma).
Jane knew she wanted to be a nurse from an early age when she first worked as a young volunteer at a local hospital. After graduating from St. Francis Academy in 1974 where she received the Future Nurses of America award, she went on to earn her bachelor of science nursing degree from Duquesne University's School of Nursing. Jane passed her nursing board exams and began her career as a licensed registered nurse in summer 1979 caring for newborns and their mothers at Magee Women’s Hospital. She continued her lifelong care for children as the nurse for Children’s Community Pediatrics in Mt. Lebanon, a private nurse for young people with special needs and eventually as the registered nurse for the Cleft, Cranio-Facial Center team, a position she was honored to hold and cared about very deeply.
The team at the Cleft-Craniofacial Center at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh cares for children with a wide range of craniofacial conditions, including:
- Abnormally shaped skulls.
- Cleft lips and palates.
- Conditions affecting the growth of the face.
- Congenital birthmarks.
- Craniofacial clefts.
- Craniofacial tumors.
- Malformed ears.
Jane was an important member of this exceptional team, committed to providing compassionate care, support and reassurance for the patients and their families.
Jane would be proud that this fund will continue her work by providing financial support for the care of these wonderful children.
