As director of communications and marketing, Matt oversees projects that increase stakeholder engagement and public understanding of The Pittsburgh Foundation's key initiatives, with the goal of increasing philanthropic activity in the community and awareness of issues impacting the region that can be solved through civic engagement. He leads the communications team and works closely with executive leadership.

Matt joined The Pittsburgh Foundation in 2024. Prior to this role, he spent 15 years in the corporate, civic, non-profit and higher education sectors. Most recently, he served Carnegie Mellon University as senior executive communications manager for university president Farnam Jahanian. Before taking that position in 2021, Matt worked for eight years as senior director of marketing and digital communications at the Allegheny Conference on Community Development. He previously held communications-related positions with Community College of Allegheny County, K&L Gates and Allegheny County Council. Matt has served on the board of directors of the Pittsburgh Urban Magnet Project (PUMP). He earned his undergraduate degree in journalism from the University of Pittsburgh. He resides in the South Hills, which according to anecdotal evidence is home to the best pizza establishments in the nation.
