Grant Amount:  $5,610 over one year
Award Category:  Individual Artist Support

Michael Moorman Goode is an artist whose art is inspired by environmentalism and his work as an educator. He intends to use the $5,610 grant to create and distribute a children’s coloring book that includes seeds. The intention is to promote community gardening in urban environments. The grant will cover the costs of creating and distributing his book to students. "Cheetasa" is for elementary-age children everywhere. It's a coloring book that Goode hopes to get into the hands of children all over Pittsburgh, particularly in urban environments where community gardening efforts are underfoot, limited green spaces exist or where community gardens could exist.

"I hope to raise awareness of environmental issues in the hearts of elementary school-age children," says Goode. "I hope to see children at their schools, in their community, and at home, planting pollinator gardens and gaining experience working in the dirt. I believe the best way to plant the seed, is to expose children to major environmental issues at a young age while simultaneously gaining experience working in the dirt."

Cheetasa models action today, tomorrow, and in the future for young people.
