GTSF - Carol Jean Miller-Mitch Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Carol Jean Miller-Mitch Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2014 as a tribute to the legacy of Carol Mitch (pictured). She was a graduate of Butler Senior High School and a 1982 graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing in New Castle.
A registered nurse, she was employed by the Visiting Nurses Association of Western Pennsylvania for nearly 27 years as a visiting nurse and other various roles. Carol was a Butler High School Marching Band nurse and chaperone for seven years, during the entire time her children played in the band.
She was a lifetime member of the St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church, Carbon Center, Pennsylvania where she served as a lector and Eucharistic minister and was a member of the Pastoral Council, the Advisory Committee for St. Wendelin's School, the school PTG and Advancement Committee, and the Endowment Fund Committee. In her final act of giving, Carol donated life-enhancing transplants to over 50 recipients.
Her family was her greatest pride and joy, and as a way to remember her they established this fund to promote the causes she held most important throughout her life. This scholarship supports graduates of Butler Area Senior High School who are pursuing a nursing degree. For more information about eligibility criteria and to apply, please contact the Butler Senior High School Guidance Office at 724-214-3200.
The scholarship is an endowed perpetual scholarship which is funded to give away a minimum of $1000 per year.
