Mark J. Hrehocik believed in the simple joys of life and in working hard while pacing oneself. The thing he loved most was spending time with his wife Diane, three children, Michael, Ben, and Matthew and two stepchildren, Anya and Alma. He also enjoyed mentoring younger engineers, a solid round of golf, a lunchtime run on a hot day or a poker game with friends.
Raised in Glassport, Mark was faithful to his Mon Valley roots. A loyal Pittsburgher, Mark held only two jobs in his life: Working a game booth at Kennywood Amusement Park and as a mechanical engineer at Bechtel Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory for 36 years. Following an extended illness, Mark passed away on Aug. 25, 2022 at the age of 59 from dementia caused by sinonasal undifferentiated carcinoma and treatment.
To honor Mark’s memory and pay tribute to his “seize-the-day” zeal for life, his loving family has established the Mr. Blue Sky Fund.
