Pilot program funded in 2015 UpPrize leads to formal agreement

The Forbes Fund, a supporting organization of The Pittsburgh Foundation, hosted UpPrize for the first time in 2015 to fund innovative solutions to better serve vulnerable populations in the region. Finalist Application Verification Inc., received funding to further develop its cloud-based background-screening product, ProVerifyTM, with input from United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania.

He’s the creator of wonderful, engaging art. “I also love the fact that he was undiscovered and unsung until the second or third Carnegie International he went to. Then he became a sensation. Fanfare: Pittsburgh Promise gala

By the time the Pittsburgh Promise's “Night of a Million Possibilities” gala had ended Nov. 10, a philanthropic dream team of the city's boldest names left little doubt as to just how committed they were to turning that dream into a reality. “Tonight, we celebrate a total of $8.8 million in new funding for the scholarship fund,” announced executive director Saleem Ghubril, with wife Patti. “The words ‘Thank You' just fall short of what my heart feels for every one of you.”

Pittsburgh Promise gets $8.8 million boost

The Pittsburgh Promise has announced $8.8 million in new funding for the scholarship program for Pittsburgh Public Schools graduates, moving it closer to its 10-year, $250 million fundraising goal. The new pledges, made public at a fundraising gala Thursday night, include $1.2 million raised through the event, $5 million from the Pittsburgh Foundation, a $1 million challenge grant from the Beacon Foundation, $750,000 from the Hillman Foundation and $500,000 from BNY Mellon, plus others.

Consultant's findings on discipline, achievement stun Pittsburgh school board members

The quality and dedication of staff, the Pittsburgh Promise scholarship program and early childhood programs rounded out the top three district assets. Effective approaches to managing discipline, academic support during the school day and math instruction/offerings were viewed as the top three areas needing improvement.
