National, Pittsburgh efforts dovetail in focus on caregivers

Pitt professor Richard Schulz headed the national panel that produced the study and will lead new local effort aimed at helping caregivers. The Caregiver Project received $1 million in funding from the Stern Family Foundation and the Emily Kelly Roseburgh Memorial Fund of The Pittsburgh Foundation. Part of that will be used for Pitt and RAND staff to analyze past research to better grasp which caregivers are under the biggest physical, mental and financial hardship. A large survey is also to be conducted of local caregivers to understand their needs.

Blueprint aims to attract immigrants to Pittsburgh region

Westmoreland food bank takes part in Hunger Action Month

To help feed the 40,000 people in Westmoreland County who struggle with hunger, the Westmoreland County Food Bank is urging county residents to advocate, educate, donate or volunteer during September, which is nationally recognized as Hunger Action Month. On Sept. 21, the food bank will participate in the annual Day of Giving for online individual donations, with a matched donation up to $50,000. Organized by the Pittsburgh Foundation and the Community Foundation of Westmoreland County, the program raised more than $20,000 for the food bank last year, Ms. Miller said.
