With nearly one in seven people in Allegheny County experiencing food insecurity, The Pittsburgh Foundation is organizing a May 1 Critical Needs Alert online fundraising event to raise money for 171 organizations with food pantries as a primary part of their mission and the organizations that supply them.

The Bennett Prize, the largest ever offered solely to women painters, was announced today by art collectors Steven Alan Bennett and Dr. Elaine Melotti Schmidt, who are endowing the $50,000 biennial prize at The Pittsburgh Foundation.

In life, Raymond Schubart Suckling was a dutiful engineering executive who lived simply, loved military history and cherished the legacy left by his parents. In death, the longtime Sewickley resident has become one of the region's most significant philanthropists, donating $37.1 million to The Pittsburgh Foundation, the second-largest gift in its 73-year history.

PITTSBURGH, Jan. 5, 2018 – The Small and Mighty grants program of The Pittsburgh Foundation will provide a total of $308,821 to 22 organizations with annual budgets under $600,000. The program is a direct outcome of the Foundation’s 100 Percent Pittsburgh organizing principle, which seeks to ensure that those among the 30 percent of Pittsburgh’s population living at or near the federal poverty line have access to opportunities in the region’s revitalized economy.

The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County (CFWC) has been chosen to oversee a $300,000 fund established under a Clean Air Act settlement with ArcelorMittal for air quality violations at the company’s Monessen coke plant. The Foundation will actively look to fund projects that improve air quality and reduce vehicle emissions in the communities most affected by the coke plant: Monessen, Donora, Caroll Township and Monongahela.

Films, musical and spoken word albums, photographs and sculptures are among 20 projects to receive funding from the Advancing Black Arts in Pittsburgh program, which also includes grants for organizations’ operating costs. $287,860 was awarded this cycle.
