Donations amplified by $550,000 incentive pool from foundations and donors

PITTSBURGH, AUG. 5, 2026 – At a time when federal funding cuts are straining the region’s nonprofit sector, the #ONEDAY Critical Needs Alert delivered a powerful wave of community support. Hosted by The Pittsburgh Foundation and The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County, the 16-hour campaign raised $1.65 million from 6,450 donations for 196 nonprofit organizations in Allegheny and Westmoreland counties. More than 4,100 donors contributed.

Participating organizations provide essential human services in five focus areas: child care, food and nutrition, eviction prevention and housing, employment, and physical and mental health care. Allegheny County organizations received a total of $1.55 million, while Westmoreland County nonprofits raised $100,000, including incentive funds.

"The Pittsburgh region shows up for its most vulnerable neighbors, and this year, when the stakes were higher, was no exception," said Pittsburgh Foundation President and CEO Bill Generett. "As nonprofits absorb the weight of funding losses and safety net cuts, the generosity behind this campaign sends a powerful message to those who rely on these services: our community is committed to standing with you and ensuring you get the support you need during challenging times."

The Pittsburgh Foundation and The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County provided a $550,000 incentive pool. Of these funds, $50,000 was earmarked for Westmoreland County organizations. Donations from $25 to $1,000 triggered funding from the pool.

Since the inception of the Critical Needs Alerts in 2013, the foundations have raised $19 million, including incentive funds. This total includes Critical Needs Alert campaigns and the #LoveIsStronger day of giving campaign following the attack on the Tree of Life*Or L’Simcha, Dor Hadash and New Light congregations in November 2018 that raised $794,000 benefiting eight organizations.

The #ONEDAY Critical Needs Alert aligns with the foundations’ mission of improving quality of life in the region. The events help to realize the vision of a vibrant, equitable and just Pittsburgh that supports everyone—regardless of race, identity or circumstance—to thrive and fulfill their potential.
