For Carleton and Emma Campbell, the Pittsburgh Foundation's Day of Giving encouraged them to establish a fund of their own as a way to continue giving to local charities of their choice.
Carleton, a retired public school science teacher, and his wife Emma live in Seville, Ross Township. They raised three children and have five grandchildren. Although they consider themselves of modest means, they feel they are at a place in their lives when they can extend their own financial blessings by assisting financially in the needs of others.
"We are not wealthy," says Carlton. "We want to help rehabilitate people. To help people be independent, self-supporting and get off welfare. This is our way of tipping the scales," he says.
Through the fund, Carleton and Emma are supporting urban impact organizations such as Allegheny Center Alliance, Venture Outdoors and Light of Life Ministries.
