The Chester H. Lehman Memorial Fund was created to support the Boy Scouts of America as the organization continues to grow.
A Harvard University graduate, Chester Lehman, was prominently identified with the philanthropic, civic and cultural growth of Pittsburgh. He was a board member of the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and assisted the volunteer organization Community Chest and The United Service Organization during World War II. He also supported the Salvation Army, United Jewish Federation and National Confederation of Christians and Jews.
While Lehman was active in many community and civic projects, he was most deeply connected to the youth of America and the country’s future, devoting much of his time to the Boy Scouts of America as a member of the executive board.
Lehman’s support of scouting was reflected in his will, which provided a perpetual endowment to the Boy Scouts of America. His commitment to American heritage and efforts to improve the lives of young people was an inspiration to those who knew him.
