Richard and Karen Miller, Heather’s parents, established the Heather Clair Miller Memorial Scholarship Fund in 1992 in memory of their daughter. Each year, the fund will award a Shaler Area High School senior with a $1,000 college scholarship.

Heather Clair Miller graduated from Shaler Area High School in 1991 and headed off to Salisbury State University in Md. the following fall.

In high school, Miller was very involved and is remembered by her friends and Shaler Area High School staff as someone who always wanted to help and influence people in any way she could.

Miller was personnel editor for the school’s yearbook, a member of the women’s choir and the jazz ensemble, a student government representative, and a member of Silk Line. Throughout her high school career, Miller appeared in three musicals and several stage plays. She participated in Students Against Drunk Driving and the ski club. Additionally, Miller served as homecoming chairman her senior year.

It didn’t take Miller long to find her place at college and become involved. After a short time on campus, Miller made friends and completed a six-day canoe trip with other university students in Ontario's Algonquin Park.

Miller was killed and the police believe she was the victim of a robbery gone terribly wrong. Her friends and family both in Salisbury and in her hometown of Glenshaw, PA have struggled with this tragedy, but through this memorial fund are working to ensure that Heather’s memory lives on forever.
