Louis F. Bruning Jr., a Greensburg resident, was born in 1906 and served in the military for a number of years. He never married and had no children, but was very close to his sister, Rose Laura Bruning. They were each listed as the sole benefactors of the other’s will.
Through his will, Louis, with the support and agreement of Rose, created the Louis F. Bruning Jr. Fund at The Pittsburgh Foundation. After Rose’s death in 1964 at age 70 and Louis’s death in 1973 at age 67, the fund began making grants that were equally distributed to the organizations that meant the most to Louis.
Per Louis’s request, these included First Presbyterian Church in Greensburg, Lehigh University, Masonic Home at Elizabethtown for the Grand Lodges of Pennsylvania, Greensburg YMCA, Greensburg YWCA, Salvation Army Greensburg, Aged of Westmoreland County at Greensburg, Boy Scouts of America Greensburg, Girl Scouts of America Greensburg, Greensburg Library Association and Union Cemetery Association.
