Established in 2012, the Jean Hartley Davis and Nancy Lane Davis Fund #1 benefits the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra for general operating support. The fund was created by twin sisters Jean Hartley and Nancy Lane Davis, who died in 2011 and 2012. Both sisters were prolific volunteers and spent time working together with Meals on Wheels well into their 90s. Jean Hartley Davis taught music in her youth and joined the U.S. Army Special Services after WWII and supervised the operation of recreation centers for soldiers. Nancy Lane Davis served as a WAVE in Washington, D.C. during WWII, as well as at Westinghouse as an executive secretary, and was at one point involved with the Manhattan Project. Both women were active members of the Wilkinsburg Women’s Club, the Rockledge Garden Club and the Photographic Society of America. The two were dedicated to their church, the Wilkinsburg 2nd United Presbyterian Church, and sung in the choir.
