Richard and Doris Arnowitz were very active in their Jeanette and Pleasant Hills communities. Richard wore many hats in his lifetime. At the start of his career, Richard opened one of the first Open Pantry franchise stores in Pleasant Hills, where he and his wife first resided. Doris helped with the franchise store at first but soon after got a job in the unemployment office. After a few years, Richard moved to sales and outdoor advertising and then took a position selling bonds for the state of Israel. As the co-chairman of Beth Israel Center Sanctuary and school building for the community’s Jewish Center, Richard worked hard as a generous volunteer. He also dedicated his time to Kiwanis International and Tri City Meals on Wheels. For Kiwanis International, he served as president and lieutenant government and held annual picnics for the club. His wife, Doris, was with him every step of the way and spent a lot of her time at Kiwanis International as well. 

Richard was a devoted family man. Richard and Doris were married in 1950 and moved to Pleasant Hills shortly after. The couple raised two children, Steven and Frances, in the Jeanette area. Richard was a well-respected man who spent time his time helping others. Doris was well-respected for her feistiness and formidability. She adored children, reading her Bible and spending time with her church friends.  

Richard died on Feb. 2, 2018, at age 89. just a few months later, Doris died on Aug. 29, 2018, at age 88.  

The couple's fund was established on Dec. 27, 2012.
