Andrew K. Kuremsky Fund

Established: 8/23/2016

Officer Andrew K. Kuremsky, of the Fairfax County (Virginia) Police Department, died in a car crash on Aug. 11, 2016, in Somerset County, PA. He was 25.

Kuremsky grew up in Wexford, PA with a love for family, tools and equipment. He was a volunteer at Orchard Hill Church and for years managed his own lawn care and snow removal business. He worked for several years inspecting and maintaining rides at Kennywood. Kuremsky was also a devoted member of the Franklin Park Volunteer Fire Company since age 14 and worked at the Franklin Park Parks Department for four summers.

As a young boy, Kuremsky joined the Cub Scouts, eventually becoming an Eagle Scout. As an Eagle Scout, Kuremsky planned, supervised and implemented a project that involved removing a dilapidated flagstone patio in an area of North Park and replacing it with a poured concrete patio. According to Scout Master Glenn Sinko, "It was - and is - the most involved and largest Eagle Scout projects in the history of his Boy Scout troop."

Kuremsky graduated from North Allegheny High School in 2009 and earned a degree in criminal justice from Penn State University in 2013. Kuremsky attended the Fairfax County Criminal Justice Academy, and in October 2014, he graduated at the top of his class and proudly took a position as a police officer with the Fair Oaks District Station of the Fairfax County Police Department.

In addition to serving his community as a police officer, Kuremsky also spent time doing auto repairs for friends and neighbors and volunteering in Catlett and Fauquier County with the Law Enforcement Explorers Club, mentoring high school students who had an interest in law enforcement.

The Andrew K. Kuremsky Fund was established in his memory and will be used to give to the programs that were important to him such as The Western Pennsylvania chapter of the Boy Scouts of America, the Facquier County Virginia Law Enforcement Explorer Program, the Franklin Park Fire Department and the K-9 dog program at the Fairfax County Police Department.
