About the 2023 Advancing Black Arts in Pittsburgh grant: The Sankofa Village will use this $50,000 grant to support culturally relevant youth programming. The organization's mission is to preserve culture through the arts. Objectives are to: Present culturally responsive, African-centered arts education that focuses on African contributions and history, prioritizes racial identity, and the learning styles of people of African ancestry; foster a learning environment that promotes connectedness and belonging; promote the leadership role of Elders and the rites of passage approach and nurture a new generation of African American artists.
