The mission of the Jonas Salk Legacy Fund is to promote Jonas Salk’s vision of global health and well-being.
Jonas Salk, leader of the team that developed the first effective polio vaccine, was an extraordinary man who committed his life to making the world a better place. His family established the Jonas Salk Legacy Fund to enhance and apply his legacy of wisdom, perseverance and creativity so that others will be inspired by his achievements and learn from the workings of his mind.
The Fund supports initiatives in research and policy to prevent physical and social suffering. It supports creative projects to improve the human condition.
The Fund is committed to:
- Preserving the story of Jonas Salk and his lifelong commitment to helping people.
- Promoting worldwide health and well-being.
- Making known Jonas Salk’s vision that creativity and wisdom—not conflict and power—will guide the world to a better future.
The Fund is interested in protecting and studying Jonas Salk’s scientific and medical research, laboratory artifacts, and extensive collection of personal papers, ensuring that they are available to scholars, artists, researchers and the public. The Fund supports public education on the role of immunizations in protecting and improving public health. The Fund encourages and facilitates collaborations among institutions, organizations and individuals interested in the legacy of Jonas Salk.
Our goal is that Jonas Salk’s approach to understanding and solving complex problems will inspire others to think creatively and address the challenges we face as we move into the future.
