Sarah Byrne-Houser, program officer for Healthy Children and Adults, joined the Foundation after serving as the program officer for External Partnerships at the POISE Foundation. In that role, she led grantmaking opportunities with the City of Pittsburgh Stop the Violence program, the YWCA Mission in Action Grants and the Pittsburgh Cultural Treasures Initiative alongside the Heinz Endowments. In her 20 years in the nonprofit sector, Sarah has worked in community engagement, advocacy, early childhood education and advocacy for the rights of children, families, and those who support them, focusing heavily on social justice. In addition to her work at The Pittsburgh Foundation, she serves as an adjunct instructor for Carlow University.

Outside of work, Sarah, a licensed fitness instructor, teaches Zumba, HIIT, and more while raising her two amazing sons and a house full of dogs.
