The Pittsburgh Foundation

Promote Philanthropy

We seek to promote philanthropy to harness the passion, enthusiasm and resources of Pittsburgh’s generous donor community. We will continue to be a strong partner and a steward dedicated to meeting the philanthropic goals of our fundholders, while reaching out broadly to engage new donors. We will provide personal services to help our fundholders fulfill their philanthropic goals to support the broad spectrum of causes they care about most, including those that address the most pressing crises of our time.

We will make the Foundation more accessible to donors by developing new ways for them to give by:

  • Continually providing expertise and resources to connect people to the causes they care about and involving and engaging donors through education events, experiences and fundraising campaigns that connect them to current community needs.

  • Engaging donors and inspiring them to align their giving with the five Foundation-directed grant-making areas – basic needs, environmental action, equity and racial justice, economic mobility and arts and culture – to drive impact in critical areas.

  • Increasing engagement with young, mid-career and Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) philanthropists by making the Foundation more accessible by creating new, flexible pathways for giving, such as pooled-giving funds and special campaigns.

  • Inspiring more people to be philanthropic by sharing donor stories, hosting public events and creating storytelling opportunities that demonstrate the power of generosity.
