The Pittsburgh Foundation’s Small and Mighty program awarded $15,000 to Main St. in 2021. The organization strengthens the qualities of life in communities, specifically through youth education.

Main St. is a Black-led and serving out-of-school time organization that delivers Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math, (STEAM) programming to Hazelwood youth. The organization introduces this programming by aligning an academic model where students are engaged in grade-level appropriate academic concepts and activities with the goal of strengthening foundational skills and promoting lifelong learning. Main St. will use the grant to support two-hour STEAM education sessions with 20 Hazelwood youth twice a week. It will also support the staffing and material costs to help the program’s technology innovation.

The Small and Mighty grants program focuses on grant seeking for small nonprofits that are meeting basic needs in our region. Since 2016, the program has awarded funding to many nonprofit organizations with budgets of less than $600,000. A list of all Small and Mighty Grantees is on the Foundation’s website.
