Small and Mighty: Pittsburgh Dream Center

Pittsburgh Dream Center

The Pittsburgh Foundation awarded a Small and Mighty grant of $12,500 in 2019 to Pittsburgh Dream Center. Since 2011, the Pittsburgh Dream Center has provided free local services that provide education and help eliminate hunger, poverty, homelessness and human trafficking. Its programs include Adopt-a-Block; Homeless to Housing, a household furniture disbursement initiative; Backpack of Hope, which provides food assistance for local school children; and a mobile food bank, which has distributed nearly 40,000 pounds of food since its inception. This grant will help the nonprofit expand its food bank by adding six more monthly sites.

The Small and Mighty grants program, an outcome of the Foundation’s 100 Percent Pittsburgh organizing principle, has awarded $308,821 in 2018 to 22 local nonprofit organizations with budgets of less than $600,000. Pittsburgh Dream Center operates annually with a budget of $211,000.

In the first round of Small and Mighty funding, announced in March 2017, a total of $230,000 was awarded to 18 organizations. To date, Small and Mighty has awarded $879,000 in grants to 40 organizations.
