PITTSBURGH, Pa., Aug. 12, 2015 -- The Charles E. Kaufman Foundation, one of The Pittsburgh Foundation’s charitable entities, today announced this year’s grants awarded through its annual competition to support basic research. Nearly $2 million will go to cutting-edge scientific research at universities across Pennsylvania.
Pittsburgh, PA, August 4, 2015 – Grants, residencies, and professional development opportunities for the region’s creative artists are the topics for an upcoming information session taking place on Monday, October 5 at the New Hazlett Theater on Pittsburgh’s North Side. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and presentations will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m.
Promise Award Scholarship Changes Assure Long-term Sustainability
PITTSBURGH, July 14, 2015 – To ensure that scholarships serve more students for a longer period of time, the Board of Directors of The Pittsburgh Promise has approved a plan to refine its scholarship structure and maximize its impact.
GenJump! was designed by The Pittsburgh Foundation in response to requests from donors to present opportunities to engage younger generations in philanthropy (i.e. what “doing good” or “giving back” means to them).
Grandparents and grandchildren will participate in a half-day session with Pittsburgh Foundation staff and Light of Life mission on the Northside of Pittsburgh in a service learning opportunity. The November session will focus on the challenges facing homeless women and children.
Many of us connected to community foundations across the country are trying to move past our shock and profound sadness to recognize that this heinous act has ignited a movement with the potential to confront racism honestly and completely rather than continuing the pattern of denial that has been embedded in America’s history.
More than $350,000 to support arts and culture programs
PITTSBURGH, Pa., June 24, 2015 – The Advancing Black Arts in Pittsburgh grants program, a partnership of The Pittsburgh Foundation and The Heinz Endowments, has awarded $350,000 in grants to 24 artists and arts organizations.
Anyone who knows me also knows that I love a great story.
The one that I’ve been telling and re-telling to illustrate what The Pittsburgh Foundation does for our community is centered on a public appeal we launched during last year’s holiday period to address homelessness and housing insecurity in Allegheny County. It was a classic fundraising campaign with a modern twist: the Foundation promised to match every contribution dollar for dollar – up to $100,000.

GREENSBURG, Pa., June 3, 2015 – Phil A. Koch, whose five-year tenure leading a national youth empowerment organization has resulted in life-development opportunities for some 50,000 youth across the country, has been appointed the next executive director of the Community Foundation of Westmoreland County, an affiliate of The Pittsburgh Foundation.
