Nominations now open for Courage in Journalism Award
PITTSBURGH, March 30, 2021 – Nominations are being accepted now through June 30 for the Sally Kalson Courage in Journalism Award Program at The Pittsburgh Foundation. The annual award, which comes with a $5,000 prize, honors a journalist whose work covering Pennsylvania aligns with Kalson’s legacy of boldly speaking truth to power.
New community foundation leader for Westmoreland
Veteran of nonprofit sector to focus on donors, community impact PITTSBURGH, MARCH 10, 2021 – McCrae Martino, whose more than 20-year career has covered critical leadership positions at a range of nonprofit organizations dedicated to improving life prospects for the region’s residents, is the new executive director of The Community Foundation of Westmoreland County (CFWC), an affiliate of The Pittsburgh Foundation.
Foundation awarded record $67 million in grants in its 75th year
PITTSBURGH, FEB. 8, 2021 – In a year when multiple crises have rocked cities around the world, The Pittsburgh Foundation along with its donors and philanthropic partners set new benchmarks for community giving, awarding $67 million in grants. It is the largest amount in its history, up from $65.7 million in 2019.
$2.1 million awarded to scientific research based at Pa. universities
PITTSBURGH, Pa., Jan. 19, 2021 – At a time when the need for scientific understanding of biological processes, the environment and human health is needed more than ever, The Charles E. Kaufman Foundation, a supporting organization of The Pittsburgh Foundation, is awarding $1.9 million to innovative and interdisciplinary scientific research by early-career and established scientists at Pennsylvania colleges and universities.
Foundation awards $351,000 in Small and Mighty Grants
PITTSBURGH, PA, JAN. 7, 2021 –The Small and Mighty grants program, a special initiative of The Pittsburgh Foundation, has made 22 new grants totaling $351,100. Small and Mighty is meant to increase the Foundation’s grantmaking to small, community-based organizations. Grantees have budgets of $600,000 or less and work to address poverty and inequity by meeting basic needs in areas such as physical and mental health, food, shelter, child care and education.
