Advancing Black Arts in Pittsburgh announces $229,000 in grants

A locally produced comic book series, a holistic healing guide coupled with therapeutic workshops for African American youth, and a series of documentaries that highlight the lives of homegrown jazz legends are all projects being funded this spring by the Advancing Black Arts in Pittsburgh grant-making program, which recently awarded $229,000 to regional artists and art programs.

Three Conneaut Lake organizations awarded grants by Dietrich Foundation

The Dietrich Foundation Conneaut Lake, PA Fund of The Pittsburgh Foundation has awarded $7,934 to Conneaut Lake-area organizations this year. Grantees this year are the Ice House Park, the Conneaut Lake Historical Society and the Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania.

Small communities are big winners in Revitalizing Westmoreland grants

A community-focused program that encourages new, creative ways to revitalize communities in Westmoreland County has made $143,000 in new grants to small communities. The grants will fund nine small-to-medium sized innovative, capital projects. To spur local investment in the projects, communities that receive Revitalizing Westmoreland grants must also raise additional dollars on their own to fully fund the projects.

Critical Needs Alert raises $1.1 million to #FeedPGH

People experiencing food insecurity in Western Pennsylvania got a major boost last week when their neighbors donated $522,500 over a 16-hour period to The Pittsburgh Foundation’s #FeedPGH Critical Needs Alert. The May 1 online giving event, which was fortified with a $600,000 incentive pool from the Foundation and its donors, raised $1.1 million for Allegheny and Westmoreland Counties’ food pantries and the organizations that supply them.

In life, Raymond Schubart Suckling was a dutiful engineering executive who lived simply, loved military history and cherished the legacy left by his parents. In death, the longtime Sewickley resident has become one of the region's most significant philanthropists, donating $37.1 million to The Pittsburgh Foundation, the second-largest gift in its 73-year history.
